The dramatic tale of a grandmother's struggle to save
the life of her young grandson who is suffering with cholera. It is said
that a victim of cholera dies or recovers on the sixth day. Om Hassan recognizes
the danger that Cairo, a city ravaged by disease and living in fear, represents
for her grandson during these six days. Her courageous response is to take
him up the Nile to the safety of the countryside.
